The 75th Anniversary Parade Stars are a pair of star-shaped novelty balloons from the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.
History with the Macy's Parade[]
The 75th Anniversary Parade Stars made their debut in the 2001 Macy's Parade, celebrating the diamond jubilee of the famed holiday spectacle. The yellow trademark shape of the Macy's department store chain floated down the streets of Manhattan touting "Macy's 75th Parade" on both sides. Joining the Toy Soldier recreation novelty balloon, the bunch of balloons made sure the 75th Parade was one to remember.
The balloons measured 25 feet tall, 24 feet wide and 12 feet deep, tipping the scale at 50 pounds each. Rising to the occasion with 1,650 cubic feet of helium, the 75th Anniversary Parade Stars required a team of 24 handlers to guide them gingerly down the streets.
Following the 2001 procession, the 75th Anniversary Parade Stars were retired and were recycled into the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade Stars for the 2002 Parade, now bearing the Parade's more traditional "drum" logo.
