America Sings! is a youth chorale consisting of community choir performers from across the United States of America. The group was founded in 1988 by John Jacobson and a group of his friends, who supported Jacobson's dream of creating a non-competitive, outdoor choir festival. The members represent young people across the nation that donate their time to volunteer and help others in need. The group's motto is "To kids who feel they have no hope, from kids with hope to share."
History with the Macy's Parade[]
America Sings! made their debut at the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in 1988, performing their signature theme song, "America Sings" as they surround the classic Showboat float and they came back the following year in 1989 where they escorted The Herald Square Express Train and performed "Rocking' Around the Christmas Tree".
After a three-year absence, they returned in 1993, as they danced with the Statue of Liberty Float with their performance of "From Where I Stand."
From 1994 to 2003, America Sings! became a stable as part of the Opening Number at Herald Square just after the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony with their own renditions and original numbers such as "Celebrate America" (1994, 2001) "Celebrate" (1995) "Dancing in the Streets" (1997) "Big City Beat" (1998) "Headed for the Future" (1999) "Believe in the Music" (2000) "Street Party" (2002) and "Big City Swing" (2003). Additionally, 1996 would feature the group at the very middle of the lineup with their performance of "Every time the Music Starts".
2004 would mark the last time for the America Sings! to be in the official lineup with their final spiritual and memorable song, "Spirit of America".
