Red is the main protagonist of the Angry Birds series of games created by Rovio Entertainment. He was introduced in 2009 as the icon of the original game and a core member of the original flock, as well as the leader. Red is usually the first bird introduced in the Angry Birds games, though there have been times where other characters were in his place. (especially in spinoffs) After his first appearance in Poached Eggs, he has become a prominent character for the series.

Red appears in the Angry Birds Movie as the starring character and is voiced by Jason Sudeikis. He is introduced as an isolated, lonely bird and the movie follows his journey to redemption as an at first angry, aggressive bird to a loved, happy companion to those around him.

History with the Macy's Parade

As a means of promotion for the Angry Birds Movie, set to be released on May 20th, 2016, a balloon version of the movie's protagonist, Red, took flight as a giant balloon for the first time in 2015. The balloon showcases Red carrying a soon-to-be-born hatchling in a "Thanksgiving pigskin classic." The balloon made two more consecutive appearances in 2016, to promote the movie's home media releases, and in 2017, to promote the web-series Angry Birds Blues, and the announcement if the movie's sequel, The Angry Birds Movie 2.

Despite the balloon's retirement, he was most recently seen in a June 2018 test flight alongside Arrrtie the Pirate, and a September 2018 test flight alongside a Blue Americana Sphere and Kit the Elf. Since said test flight, this balloon has yet to make another public appearance.

Trivia

  • As seen in early concept art for the balloon, a toy float of one of the Pigs was planned to appear alongside the Red balloon. This, however, never made it past the planning stages.

Music
