The Avon Marching Black & Gold is a musical ensemble from Avon High School, located in Avon, Indiana. The band participates in high-level competitions and is annually recognized as one of the top high school marching bands in the country. In 2023, the Marching Black & Gold became ISSMA Class A State Champions and Bands of America Grand National Champions.
History with the Macy's Parade[]
The Avon Marching Black & Gold made their Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade debut in 2024, as one of six high school marching bands selected out of hundreds of applicants. The announcement was made in April 2023 by creative producer Wesley Whatley, stating the band "consistently sets a national standard of excellence," also commenting on the band's many awards and accolades.
The band was gifted with a commemorative drumhead, and a $10,000 cheque courtesy of Macy's to give them a head start on their fundraising.
For their performance on the NBC telecast, they would play "Holiday Tableaux", which comprised of iconic musical themes from some of the classic Christmas movies and TV specials.
