Baby Shark is a children's song that originated as a campfire song, later popularized on YouTube by South Korean entertainment company, Pinkfong. As of October 2023, the Pinkfong upload boasts a total of 13 billion views and counting, making it the most-viewed YouTube video of all time. The popularity of the upload led to a television series adaptation, Baby Shark's Big Show! on Nickelodeon, as well as merchandise that includes bedding, clothing, toys, and food items.
History with the Macy's Parade[]
Baby Shark made its first-ever Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade appearance in 2022, with the debut of an all-new float and balloon combo. Soaring high was a 25-foot Baby Shark balloon, taking its first swim above the streets of New York City with approximately 100 pounds of upward lift. While companion floats have joined giant balloons over the years, the Baby Shark unit marks the first time where a balloon and float appeared as one cohesive unit.
Preceding the Baby Shark balloon is an 18-foot long float featuring an underwater seascape with eight starfish and three different types of sea anemone. Making a splash on the float are members of the Shark family—Mommy Shark, Daddy Shark, Grandma Shark, and Grandpa Shark.
On its debut, Baby Shark float was joined by a custom-wrapped Ram Truck featuring a nautical scene with sea life galore.
The Baby Shark unit made its second and final appearance in the 2023 Parade, celebrating the December 8 release of Baby Shark's Big Movie! on Paramount+.
