The Bananas & Palm Tree Clowns are a clown unit from the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.
History with the Macy's Parade[]
The Bananas & Palm Tree Clowns made their debut in the 2011 Parade, bringing a touch of tropical sunshine to the streets of NYC. The troupe was lead by a Carmen-Miranda inspired clown captain (recycled from the Tropical Fruit Clowns), with a brigade of bananas and peppy palm trees following not far behind. The clown unit traditionally appeared alongside the Julius Balloon, and other nature-inspired elements such as the Rocking Giraffe and the stilt-walking tropical birds.
The clown group made three consecutive appearances in the Parade, and were retired following the 2013 Parade. The Palm Tree costumes featured in the unit were later used as float escort costumes for The Aloha Spirit Float in 2016.
Trivia[]
- The Bananas & Palm Tree Clowns are made up entirely of recycled costumes; the Carmen Miranda outfit originates from the Tropical Fruit Clowns, the Bananas originate from the Banana Split Clowns, and the Palm Trees originate from the 2004 Krazy Kritters Float.
