La Banda de Música La Primavera is a musical ensemble from Santiago, Veraguas, Panamá. It was founded in 1992 as a rhythmic band with 30 musicians playing glockenspiel and drums and has grown to include the marching band program (founded in 2011) which comprises 200 students aged eight to 17 from la Primavera Bilingual Educational Center.[1]
Its expertise and representation of Panamanian folklore earned it the title of cultural ambassador by the National Government of Panama, with further support from the Archdiocese of Panama. It has appeared twice in the Tournament of Roses Parade—once during the virtual celebration in 2021, and again in 2023.[2]
History with the Macy's Parade[]
In 2025, La Banda de Música La Primavera will march as the first-ever Panamanian marching band to appear in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. A $10,000 cheque was donated by Macy’s to help the group kickstart its fundraising efforts, in addition to confetti to help celebrate the announcement.
