Barenaked Ladies is a Canadian rock band formed in 1988 in the Toronto suburb of Scarborough, Ontario. The chart-topping band had been making music for four decades and have sold over 15 million albums worldwide. The 1991 release of The Yellow Tape, initially meant as a demo cassette, would go on to become the first independent tape to ever achieve platinum status, with over 100,000 copies sold in Canada. Following multiple indie cassette releases, the band signed to Sire Records and Reprise Records, with whom they released their first full album entitled Gordon, featuring the singles "If I Had $1000000" and "Brian Wilson". The album became a cultural phenomenon in Canada and was certified Diamond (selling over 1 million records). Their fourth album Stunt, released in 1998, would become the band’s most commercially successful record, climbing all the way to No.3 on the Billboard album chart, anchored by "It's All Been Done", "Call and Answer", and the smash hit “One Week,” which peaked at No.1 on the Billboard Hot 100. The band has seen incredible success over their lengthy career with international tours including performances at Madison Square Garden, The Royal Albert Hall, and Wembley. They also have famously penned the theme song for the hit CBS series, The Big Bang Theory, won multiple Juno Awards and have been nominated for two Grammy Awards. The group overall had sold over 15 million albums and singles and were inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame in March 2018.

History with the Macy's Parade[]

Barenaked Ladies first made their debut at the 2004 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade on Amica Mutual Insurance's American Classic Malt Shop float and performed a wacky rendition of "Jingle Bells" from their holiday-themed studio album Barenaked for the Holidays.

The rock band would then return just in time for their 30th Anniversay, for a second time at the 2018 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade on the float entitled "The Aloha Spirit" from King's Hawaiian and sung their classic hit known as "One Week".
