Beauty and the Beast is a fairy tale written by French novelist Gabrielle-Suzanne Barbot de Villeneuve and published in 1740 in La Jeune Américaine et les contes marins. Her lengthy version was abridged, rewritten, and published first by Jeanne-Marie Leprince de Beaumont in 1756 in Magasin des enfants and by Andrew Lang in The Blue Fairy Book of his Fairy Book series in 1889, to produce the version(s) most commonly retold. It was influenced by some earlier stories, such as "Cupid and Psyche", The Golden Ass written by Lucius Apuleius Madaurensis in the 2nd century AD, and "The Pig King", an Italian fairytale published by Giovanni Francesco Straparola in The Facetious Nights of Straparola.

In 1991, Disney made an Animated Musical Film based on the Book with Paige O'Hara as Belle and Robby Benson as The Beast. Then in 2017, There was a Remake Live-Action film also based on Both Animated Film and the Book, Starring Emma Watson as Belle and Dan Stevens as The Beast.

History with the Macy's Parade[]

In 1992, to promote Beauty and the Beast's Home Video Release, a float titled Belle's castle debuted in the 66th Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade which was in front of The Marshfield High School Marching "Tigers" Band and the Santa Goofy Balloon. The float was recycled from the previous Carousel float last year. On the float, the cast and characters from the Disney-MGM Studios (now Disney's Hollywood Studios) stage show, Beauty and the Beast: Live on Stage, performed "Be Our Guest". It would retire after its only trip down Broadway and it would later be refurbished into The Swan Princess Castle float in 1994.
