Beetlejuice: The Musical is a Broadway musical with songs and lyrics by Eddie Perfect and book by Scott Brown and Anthony King. The irreverent musical comedy based on Tim Burton’s 1988 film, Beetlejuice tells the story of Lydia Deetz, a strange and unusual teenager whose life changes when she meets a recently deceased couple and Beetlejuice, a demon with a thing for stripes.
Beetlejuice: The Musical opened on Broadway on April 25, 2019 at the Winter Garden Theatre, following an out-of-town tryout at the National Theatre in Washington, D.C. The production at the Winter Garden closed on March 11, 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The show remounted on Broadway on April 8, 2022 at the Marquis Theatre before closing for good on January 8, 2023.
Macy's Parade appearances[]
Beetlejuice: The Musical made its Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade debut in the 2019 Parade, serving as one of four Broadway musicals to perform as part of the pre-Parade festivities. The cast of the Tony-nominated show began the performance with a rendition of "Day-O," which was featured in a hallmark moment in the original Beetlejuice film.
The performance was quickly interrupted by Beetlejuice himself, performing a rendition of the show's opening number, "The Whole Being Dead Thing". In a novel twist, the musical adapted the song into a high-energy, Thanksgiving-inspired song.
Following the cast's performance in the Parade, lyrics from the Thanksgiving-inspired number were performed at the show's matinee and evening performances on November 29th, 2019.
