Big City Cheer! is a float from the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade sponsored by long-time Parade partner, Spirit of America Productions.
History with the Macy's Parade[]
The Big City Cheer! float made its debut in the 2015 Parade, replacing Spirit of America's previous float entry, Pep Rally. The float is inspired by the art-deco buildings of New York City and features cheerleaders showing their spirit alongside the reigning Miss America. The float utilizes LED technology that looks like neon, but with more luminosity and at less than 3% of energy consumption.
In 2020, Spirit of America Cheer and Dance Stars did not appear due to COVID-19 restrictions barring those under 18 from participating. Consequently, the Big City Cheer! float was also absent that year; in its place, Miss America 2020 Camille Schrier was interviewed by Al Roker on the NBC telecast. The float returned in 2021 and has appeared regularly since.
