Bil Baird (August 15th, 1904 – March 18th, 1987) was an American puppeteer who is best known for his unique hand-crafted puppets like "Charlemane the lion" and performed for millions of adults and children through his career. He and his wife Cora were best known for producing and performing the famous puppetry sequence for "The Lonely Goatherd" in the film version of The Sound of Music.
