The Birthday Party Clowns are a group of clowns from the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.
History with the Macy's Parade
The Birthday Party Clowns made their Macy's Parade debut in 1993. The unit of clowns, then known as the Birthday Party Cake Clowns, originally consisted of human forks and spoons pursuing human cake slices en route to 34th Street. The clown unit remained the same until 2001, when the birthday cake costumes were recycled as float escorts for the Toon Balloon-Abration float, which celebrated the Parade's 75th anniversary.
The following year, the clowns returned to walking on foot without the human forks and knives. In 2006, the unit's name was changed to the "Birthday Party Clowns", and added a group of over-sized party hat clowns carrying over-sized ice cream cones, which were previously used for the Banana Split Clowns.
In 2016, the Celebration Clowns, who had previously lead the Parade from 2011 to 2015, were added to the Birthday Party Clown unit.
Though the clown group was originally scheduled to appear in the re-imagined 2020 Macy's Parade, they were eventually cut from the procession due to the limited number of participants.
