Bolt is a 2008 American computer-animated comedy-adventure film produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios and released by Walt Disney Pictures. It is the 48th Disney animated feature film. Directed by Chris Williams and Byron Howard, the film stars the voices of John Travolta, Miley Cyrus, Malcolm McDowell, Diedrich Bader, Nick Swardson, Greg Germann, Susie Essman, and Mark Walton.

The film's plot centers on a white German Shepherd named Bolt, who having spent his entire life on the set of a television series, thinks that he has superpowers. When he believes that his human, Penny, has been kidnapped, he sets out on a cross-country journey to "rescue" her.

History with the Macy's Parade[]

The Bolt falloon made its Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade debut in 2008, as a means of promotion for the film of the same name. The float features large inflatable versions of the film's titular character, Bolt and his unlikely traveling companions, Mittens the jaded cat and Rhino the TV-obsessed hamster, showcasing their cross-country journey from New York to Hollywood aboard the parade float.

“The Macy’s Parade has been the launching pad for many new beautifully animated characters just waiting to leap into the hearts of fans everywhere, and this year is no exception,” said Amy Kule, past producer of Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. “The addition of Bolt to an already stellar line-up is sure to be a highlight of the annual procession and make Bolt an instant Parade classic.”

The falloon was retired after its inaugural appearance in the 2008 Parade. Despite its retirement, the cold-air inflatable versions of Bolt, Rhino and Mittens remain dormant in the Macy's Parade Studio as of 2016.
