The Bronx Zoo is a zoo located in Bronx Park within the Bronx borough of New York. It opened on November 8, 1899, with 843 animals in 22 exhibits, a number that has grown to over 11,000 animals across 700 species. It is the flagship park of the Wildlife Conservation Society and has welcomed over 400 million guests since opening. The Bronx Zoo’s work in the areas of animal welfare, husbandry, veterinary care, education, science and conservation is world-renowned and has been featured on the Animal Planet docu-series The Zoo.

History with the Macy's Parade[]

The Bronx Zoo celebrated its 125th anniversary with a brand-new float in the 2024 Parade, titled “Wondrous World of Wildlife.” It was designed and built by Macy’s Studios over the course of six months before its announcement.

The float’s design is inspired by the architecture of the park’s Rainey Memorial Gate and Zoo Centre and displays three different biomes and their respective wildlife that can be found within the zoo. The Russian Boreal Rainforest, located at the front of the float, features an Amur tiger in its natural snow-covered habitat. The mid-section of the float is themed to the African Savanna and includes four different species—giraffe, Grevy’s zebra, ostrich, and the Von Der Decken's hornbill. The African Rainforest, located at the rear, is decorated with lush palm trees and features the western lowland gorilla, okapi, and African gray parrot.
