The Christmas String of Lights is a novelty balloon from the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.

History with the Macy's Parade[]

Originally a Universal Orlando exclusive balloon, they made their debut at the 2015 edition of the Macy's Holiday Parade. During the Parade, the bulbs flicker their lights, to make it look like a real Christmas light string, which makes it the first-ever, as of 2020, the only novelty balloon to utilize a flashing light. This effect was also used twice previously; with the Cheesasaurus Rex in 2001 and Pikachu in 2006.

After the Macy's Holiday Parade was re-branded into Universal's Holiday Parade Featuring Macy's, the Christmas Lights were added as part of the main Parade's lineup in 2017. The Christmas Lights would only appear that year and were retired altogether shortly after, and haven't made another public appearance since.

Defects[]

  • In 2017, the base of the blue bulb was partially deflated.
