The Clown Car is a clown prop from the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.
History with the Macy's Parade[]
The Clown Car made its first appearance in the 1982 Parade, making its away down the Parade route on millions of giggles to the gallon. Traditionally driven by former official clown for the Macy's Parade, Mr. Chuck, the yellow-and-green Clown Car sputtered and spat its way down the route.
Hostess Stepfanie Kramer would drive the Clown Car in 1984, making her way from her uptown position to Macy's Herald Square, where she joined Bryant Gumbel in commentating the Parade. Two years later, Mr. Chuck was replaced as its driver by Scuffy the Clown.
In 1988, the car's green roof was removed. The Clown Car made one more appearance in the 1989 Parade, and was subsequently retired from the lineup.
