Dora the Explorer is the main character of her self-titled educational animated TV show on Nick Jr., the children's programming block of Nickelodeon. Dora is a 7-year-old girl of Indigenous Mexican heritage, who embarks on quests to various locales accompanied by her talking backpack and her anthropomorphized monkey companion Boots. In overcoming obstacles and solving puzzles, she often makes use of fourth-wall-breaking interactions with young viewers to seek their assistance. Dora's show aired from 2000 to 2015, with the most episodes of any show on Nick Jr.

History with the Macy's Parade

Balloon

Dora was introduced to the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade as a balloon in 2005, becoming the first Latino character to appear as a balloon in the Parade's history. The Dora balloon is also joined by her Backpack and Map, which makes her a multi-character balloon as well. This balloon made 5 appearances and was retired after the 2009 Parade. She is unlikely to return, as she has faded in obscurity and both of her shows had ended in the mid-2010s.

Floats

In 2010, the balloon was replaced by a float based off of the television special Dora's Christmas Carol Adventure. It features costumed-character versions of Dora and Boots, as well as a giant Christmas Tree and fortress. An animatronic version of Swiper the Fox also appears popping out of the bushes. This float was retired after the 2013 Parade.

In 2014, a brand-new float was introduced, as to promote her new spin-off series, Dora & Friends: Into the City! It features a house with various flowers decorated on the float, alongside costumed-character versions of Dora, Kate, and Pablo. This float only made one appearance and was retired shortly afterward. Despite this, the float escorts continue to appear as the POP! Flower Clowns as of 2018.

Neither of these floats is likely to return, because of the same reason aforementioned above for the Dora balloon.

Incidents

2006, 2007, 2008, and 2009 all had incidents where Dora's left arm was slightly bent.
