Willie the Red Bird is a giant character balloon from the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.
History with the Macy's Parade[]
Willie the Red Bird first flew the coop in the 1932 Macy's Parade, and like many balloons from that time frame, he was an original Macy's character. The balloon also appeared outside of the main Parade, at a local holiday parade in New Jersey.
The balloon was retired after its only appearance and was disposed of shortly after. Today, Willie is not expected to return to the Parade lineup due to his obscurity.
