The Fire Truck is a clown vehicle from the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.
History with the Macy's Parade[]
The Fire Truck clown car made its debut in the 1984 Macy's Parade. The vehicle featured a slapstick team of firefighter clowns who threw out buckets of water (confetti) to spectators. The vehicle helped kick off the Parade festivities as it, and other clown props, broke reign for the start of the procession's line of march. It was sidelined along Central Park West, and re-joined the lineup at a later point, an act that would follow through 1986.
In 1987, the Fire Truck was given a permanent position in the lineup with the newly-introduced Clown Fire Brigade clown unit, joining other firefighter-themed clown props such as the Smoking Outhouse, Fire Engine and Fire Pumper. It was also given a refurbishment, adding an emblem, ladders to its sides, ringing alarm bells and a flashing light. The Fire Truck clown vehicle appeared for several decades, and was retired after the 2004 Parade.
The most recent Fire Truck was introduced in the 2005 Macy's Parade. Updated features include a sleeker design, with a larger emblem and headlights. This version of the Fire Truck continues to appear in the Parade as of 2023, appearing alongside the Funny Firefighter Brigade clown unit.
