"Some think Harold the Policeman is full of hot air, but it's actually helium. And with shoes that are over 12 feet long, he's certainly no "flat foot." -- Official Website, 2013-2014, 2016-2017'
Harold the Policeman is a novelty balloon from the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. He is a recreation of the Policeman balloon that only appeared in the 1947 Parade.
History
Harold the Policeman first appeared in the 2011 Parade, joining his Fireman counterpart en route to 34th Street. Occasionally, this balloon would be seen with the Tough Guy and Bulldog trycaloons, and eventually the NYPD Marching Band. This balloon was retired after the 2016 Parade and was presumably replaced by Harold the Baseball Player in 2017.
Trivia
- He was originally scheduled to be retired after the 2014 Parade, but was later re-added to the 2015 lineup as a last-minute replacement for the R.H. Macy Baseball.
- In 2017, the official website listed him appearing in the 2017 Parade, but for unknown reasons, he was booted off alongside Cloe the Holiday Clown.
