Hugo the Football Hero was a character that appeared as a giant helium character balloon in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.
History with the Macy's Parade[]
The balloon version of Hugo made its debut in the 1941 Parade. The design for Hugo is a refurbished model of the first Superman balloon. It features him with his hands on his hips, sporting a red football jersey with a white letter "M" on it, which stands for Macy's. The balloon was paired with a novelty football balloon (similar to fellow balloon Charlie Brown). Much like all the other balloons from this time period, the rubber from this balloon and the football balloon were donated to the U.S. military for war efforts during World War II.
