Jagged Little Pill is a rock musical based on a 1995 album of the same name by Alanis Morissette, and deals with pain, empowerment and healing. The musical features music by Alanis Morissette and Glen Ballard, and a book by Diablo Cody. The musical centers around of lives the Healys, a suburban family whose serene Connecticut lives collide head-on with some of the most burning issues of today.
It premiered at the American Repertory Theatre in Cambridge, Massachusetts in May of 2018, running until July of that year. The production then transferred to Broadway's Broadhurst Theatre, with an opening night of December 5th, 2019. For the 74th Annual Tony Awards in 2020, the production received 15 nominations.
History with the Macy's Parade[]
Jagged Little Pill made its Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade debut in 2020 as one of four Broadway shows performing for the television-only NBC broadcast. The show's musical number was pre-taped in New York City's theatre district, outside of the Richard Rogers Theatre and the Imperial Theatre in mid-November 2020. The cast performed a rendition the show's finale number, "You Learn."
The pre-taped performance was the first time the show's cast had performed together live since March 2020, following Broadway going dark as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic in New York City.
