Jeffrey Koons is an American artist, who is known for working with popular culture subjects and his reproductions of banal objects, such as balloon animals produced in stainless steel with mirror-finished surfaces. He lives and works in both New York City and his hometown of York, Pennsylvania.

History with the Macy's Parade

In 2007, Jeff Koons teamed up with Macy's to produce a balloon-based on one of his creations, Rabbit, in the 81st Annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, as the second balloon in the Blue Sky Gallery. The balloon featured Rabbit in his normal pose, holding a silver, metallic carrot. Unlike his predecessor in the gallery, this balloon only made one parade appearance. After the balloon's retirement, it toured many Macy's department stores and malls from 2007 to 2009. It is unlikely this balloon will ever return, due to several controversies with Jeff Koons and also due to the usual one-year tenure of Blue Sky Gallery entries.

Trivia

  • At 54 feet tall, Rabbit is the tallest Blue Sky Gallery balloon to appear in the Parade.
