Jerry the Pig is one of the classic balloon characters in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, and among the first ever created.
History with the Macy's Parade
Jerry was created for the 1931 parade and was notable for being one of the first Macy's characters to receive a name. That year, during the balloon release, he, The Black Cat, and The Cat were caught by legendary aviator Clarence Chamberlin. While the Cat escaped (and subsequently caught on fire), Jerry was returned safely to Macy's, meaning the soaring swine would continue to appear in the parade until 1933, at which point he was retired. Jerry is currently not expected to return to the parade due to his great obscurity.
