Julius is a fictional character created by cartoonist and fashion designer, Paul Frank, who appears in a variety of media. He is depicted as a sock-monkey who goes on various adventures with friends such as Worry Bear, Elly Elephant, etc. He also had a spin-off series on Nick Jr in 2013, called Julius Jr.
History with the Macy's Parade
Julius made his parade debut in 2011, to help celebrate the Parade's 85th anniversary. The balloon depicts him flying down the parade with his jetpack. At 39 feet wide, he was also the widest balloon in the Parade at the time of his appearances. He would later make more appearances in 2012 and 2013, where the latter year would promote his new Nick Jr. series as mentioned above. After that year, he was retired.
Since its retirement, the balloon would resurface at various handler training sessions from September 2014 through October 2016. The balloon wold lay dormant until October 2019, when the balloon was used alongside a Yellow Macy's Star for a handler training.
