History with the Macy's Parade[]
Loryn Sotsky joined the Macy's Parade Studio team in September of 2000, creating and sculpting various sculptures and set pieces for Macy's many seasonal events, such as the annual spring Flower Show, the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade and Macy's Santaland. Sotsky also worked with the procession's signature giant helium balloons as a technician.
In a 2018 Instagram from Macy's, Sotsky was quoted as saying "All the artists and craftspeople at the studio are very fortunate to get to do what they love. [On Parade day,] it’s always very cool to recognize your own work shown in such a huge and stupendous setting. It makes you feel like a part of history."
In 2020, Sotsky would become a designer for the Parade Studio, alongside her husband, after several members of the design team were laid off due to the COVID-19 pandemic. She would appear in an installment of the Parade 101 series of videos released by Macy's. In the video, she and Joey Ammons discuss how a balloon is designed by drawing one of their own.
