Macy's Holiday Ambassador program was a promotional campaign run by Macy's during the holiday season. The campaign selected one character—generally a balloon character from Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade—to be given official Holiday Ambassadorship, which includes a limited-edition plush that could be bought at Macy's stores nationwide with a purchase over a certain amount, a decorated window and cold-air inflatable atop a marquee at Macy's Herald Square, and in-store displays featuring the character. If the chosen character appears as a balloon in the Parade, they were generally positioned as either the lead, middle, or final giant balloon in the lineup. The program would start in 1987, and would be an annual tradition for Macy's until 2010, as the following year would not have a Holiday Ambassador. The program would return from 2014 to 2016, before being discontinued again. It would temporarily come back in 2018 and 2021, there has not been a new Holiday Ambassador since 2021.
