Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade Wiki

This is a list of Policies and Guidelines discussed and agreed upon by the staff and editors of the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade Wiki community. We expect all users to adhere to these guidelines to ensure the Wiki can operate as smoothly as possible.

Rules[]

  • Do not add false or unconfirmed information to the Wiki. We try to maintain a level of reliability, and only add information when confirmed by Macy's or a trusted source.
  • When commenting, remain civil and do not spam in all caps. Any unrelated/nonsense comments will be deleted.
  • If punished, be civil. If you feel your punishment is unfair, please contact a Wiki admin to sort things out.
  • Do not engage in any "edit wars" with other users. If you rollback another user's edits for any reason, please let them know why you did so on their message wall. If you feel a rollback of your edits is unjust, contact an admin.
  • The Wiki is not a personal playground for you to add Parade elements you want to see in the future. If you want to make predictions or fan-made lineups, please use a blog post or visit the Macy's Parade Fanon Wiki.
  • Do not disclose personal contact information to anybody.
  • Please be friendly when communicating with others. Being rude only makes things more difficult for everybody.
  • Select features on the Wiki are only for admin use. These include changing infobox images (with a few exceptions for extremely low-quality images), changing templates, blocking users, changing the Wiki's theme, etc.

Image Policy[]

To ensure the Wiki meets a quality standard, we enforce an image policy regarding the best way to upload/create images for the Wiki.

  • In most cases, you are expected to ask permission from the original owners of images in order to upload them. Exceptions can be made for images from Macy's themselves and other publicly available images.
  • Ensure there are no duplicates of an image before you upload it.
  • Please name files accordingly. Many programs and devices generate a random name for files composed of letters and numbers, so it is asked that you rename them. A large amount of files can be renamed using the Bulk Rename Utility, or the "destination file name" on the Wiki's upload page.
  • Attempt to locate the highest-quality copy of an image possible. Sites such as TinEye are great for this.
  • Altering images using upscaling programs is not allowed, as it falsifies the reality of the subject. Minor subjects, such as cropping, removing blemishes, minor color correcting, etc. are allowed, however.
  • Watermarked images from stock image sites such as Getty Images, Shutterstock, Alamy, etc. are not to be uploaded.
  • Do not remove watermarks from images that are uploaded—they were put there for a reason.
  • We ask that you crop out any white/black outlines (a.k.a. the "gutter space") around an image when possible.
  • Images taken of a screen using a phone camera are not allowed. Images must be screenshots or direct file saves.
  • When screenshoting a YouTube video, the icons of the YouTuber should not be in the image. The Screenshot YouTube add-on for Chrome is the best option for this.
  • When adding an image to a gallery, please place the image in the gallery instead of placing the image somewhere else, like on the other side of the parade as a separate image.
  • Fan-made renderings of balloons and floats are not allowed outside of blog posts, as we do not want people confusing them for the real thing.
  • Infobox images should feature the element as it "should" be. For example, images of balloons cannot have any deflated parts (if possible), floats cannot have collapsed set pieces, etc.
  • Besides an infobox image, the images featured on an element's page should be images of notable events in the element's history, such as any accidents it was involved in, repaints, construction images, etc.
  • Photos of celebrities should be a square-shaped image, preferably a headshot of them in the Parade, or a publicity headshot taken around the time of their most recent Parade appearance.
  • NSFW/inappropriate images are not allowed.
