Miss Petula Pig, often shortened to simply Petula Pig is a Macy's original character that originated as a giant balloon in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.

History with the Macy's Parade

Miss Petula Pig first pirouetted down the Parade pipe in 1997, alongside fellow newcomers Arthur, Rugrats, and Bumpé. The balloon featured a posh pig with a multi-colored neon skirt, a pair of red ballet shoes, purple eyeliner, red lipstick, a pearl necklace, and trotters painted red.

During the balloon's debut in the 1997 Macy’s Parade, high winds caused The Cat in the Hat balloon to knock into a lamppost, causing the fixture to topple on top of a Parade spectator, leaving her in a month-long coma. As a result, the Miss Petula Pig balloon, alongside the Eben Bear balloon, was removed from the Parade, and decided to make her proper debut another year.

Miss Petula Pig returned to the line of march in the 1999 Parade, now under the name "Petula Pig". The balloon was retired permanently from the Parade that same year.

Nearly a decade after her last appearance, Miss Petula Pig was brought out for a test flight in October of 2008, alongside Hamlet the Balloon School Pig. Since then, the posh pig has appeared in numerous test flights, having made an appearance as recent as June 2019, where it flew alongside the brand-new Ice Cream Cone novelty balloon.
