Morton Salt is an American food company that specializes in producing salt for food, water conditioning, industrial and agricultural work, and use on roadways. Founded in 1848 by Alonzo Richmond, the Chicago-based company is North America’s leading producer of salt, operating more than 20 production facilities across the continent.[1] In 2021, Morton Salt became a subsidiary of Stone Canyon Industries Holdings, Inc.

History with the Macy's Parade[]

Morton Salt made its Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade debut with an all-new float in the 2010 Parade. The float, titled Home Baked Goodness, commemorates the timeless family tradition of preparing home-baked goodies for the holidays. Cooking up yummy treats, the float features a giant cast iron stove overflowing with cupcakes the size of ovens, cookies as big as frisbees, and gingerbread men the size of real-life bakers.[2]

Traveling down the parade route with the float and making millions of spectators hungry for the special treats are float escorts dressed as Cupcakes, Gingerbread, and Baking Kids. At the top of the float sits a box full of special recipes, made with love and flavored with a pinch of Morton Salt.

The Home Baked Goodness float made appearances through 2012. After its retirement and subsequent disposal, several of the float’s props were used as decorations at Macy’s Studios—the gingerbread men lined the wall, the utensils holder found its home in the cafeteria,[3] and a faux-cast-iron decoration was added to the painting area.[4] The float escort costumes also became part of the Half-Baked Holiday Sweets the following year.
