Old Man Dragon is an original giant helium character balloon created for the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. It is considered to be the longest balloon to ever appear in the Parade’s lineup.
History with the Macy’s Parade[]
A perpetually grinning, caterpillar-like dragon slithered down the parade route in 1929. Due to strong winds that year, it stayed close to the ground until it and the other balloons were released, at which point its 178-foot long body spiraled into the wild blue yonder. The balloon only appeared in that year's parade, as it has become long lost after it was released and was likely disposed of.
