The Opening Macy's Stars are a trio of novelty balloons from the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.

History with the Macy's Parade

In 2018, the Parade's unofficial mascot, Tom Turkey, was given a face-lift through the form of a newly-refurbished float. The three-tier float featured the signature giant gobbler, painted in a color scheme of orange, brown and bronze. Adding to the merriment, a mob of cheerleaders and show girls, dubbed the 'Macy's Starlets' escorted Tom en route to 34th Street.

To coincide with the momentous occasion, a new set of star novelty balloons were added to the opening unit. Entitled the "Opening Macy's Stars", the balloons are based on the Gold Macy's Tri-Star, which had previously appeared in the 2008 edition of the Parade. The balloons continue to make appearances in the Parade as of 2020.

Two of the three stars appeared at Macy's Parade Studio for the 2018 Float Preview Night and Press Day, serving as decorations.

In 2019, two of the three stars were used as a backdrop for Céline Dion's performance on the NBC Parade telecast, which was filmed at Macy's Parade Studio.
