Phantom Limb Company is a New York City-based organization that uses puppetry, movement, and design to tell poetic multimedia stories about emergent climate change issues and other environmental justice topics. The organization has collaborated with the likes of Lemony Snicket, Danny Elfman, and the Kronos Quartet, among others. A recent piece of their work, "The Puppet Cycles: Small World Stories," could be seen around NYC in summer 2022 as part of a Brookfield Arts commission in public plazas.
History with the Macy's Parade[]
The Phantom Limb Company made their Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade debut in 2021, offering their puppeteering skills to help bring Tiptoe, the reindeer who is too shy to fly, to life. A total of 11 puppeteers controlled the 17-foot tall balloon puppet, which was the first of its kind in the Parade's history. The company made a reprise appearance in the 2022 Parade, joining Tiptoe and the Fusion Winter Guard in a special holiday performance.
