The Pilgrim was an original giant character balloon that appeared in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.
History with the Macy's Parade[]
The Pilgrim balloon made its first parade appearance in the 1946 Parade. The design featured a pilgrim carrying a musket along the Parade route. It measured 40 feet high and took 4,000 cubit feet of helium to fill, along with it taking 20 handlers to guide the balloon to 34th Street. The balloon was retired after that year's procession, and was refurbished into the Pirate balloon in 1947.
Trivia[]
- Being part of the 1946 procession, the balloon appeared in the 1947 film Miracle on 34th Street.
