Pirate's Booty is a puffed rice and corn snack food produced by Robert Ehrlich since 1987. B&G Foods acquired Robert's American Gourmet Food in June 2013. The snack was developed by commodities trader Robert Ehrlich. The snack is made with cornmeal, rice, and cheddar cheese. Pirate Brands also has a number of other similar snack products, including baked, gluten-free milled corn snacks called Smart Puffs, and crunchy corn sticks called Original Tings. Pirate Brands is now owned and operated by Amplify Snack Brands, a Hershey company.
History with the Macy's Parade[]
In 2014, Pirate's Booty made their Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade debut in the shape of a float. The float in question was named "Treasure Hunt!". It was recycled from the classic Jolly Polly Pirate Ship float, which had previously retired in 2012. The float stood at 40-foot tall, with Crunchy the Parrot, one of the company's mascots, perched upon the crow's nest overlooking the float en route. The sail displays a large treasure map, showing the way to buried treasure. At the front of the float, a treasure chest overflows with doubloons, jewels, and gold. Additionally, dolphins swim with glee as they lead the float.
To promote the float's appearance the following year, in 2015, Pirate's Booty also launched an online-based contest titled "Share Yar Thanksgiving Traditions", where a lucky winner would win a trip for four to New York City, with special seating, to see the 2015 Parade live. The float would make one more appearance in 2016, before being retired. Despite its retirement, it still exists among other Parade floats at the Macy's Parade Warehouse.
