The Poinsettias are a pair of novelty balloons from the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.

History with the Macy's Parade

The Poinsettias first appeared in the 1988 Parade, debuting alongside various other ornament novelty balloons. The design featured poinsettias surrounding by holly on a simple sphere balloon. Two sets of these balloons were made - one with white poinsettias, and one with red poinsettias. Despite this, one of each would usually hark Santa along the parade route. In 1992, the Poinsettias appeared at Disney's MGM Studios for Macy's New York Christmas alongside Betty Boop, Santa Goofy, Snuggle Bear, Kermit the Frog, and others. These balloons were used until 1995 when they were replaced by the Snowstars.

A new set of the Red Poinsettia balloons debuted in 2004, alongside the Red Candy Cane and the Ice Crystals. The design was nearly identical to the previous balloons, with the exception of more vibrant colors. These balloons appeared until the 2008 Parade when they were retired.

After over ten years after their retirement, one of the Poinsettias appeared in Celine Dion's performance for the 2019 Parade's telecast on NBC, alongside a Blue & White Macy's Star, two of the three Opening Macy's Stars, the Red Americana Sphere, the Rexy in the City float, and the Brick-Changer float.
