Wearing his legendary T-Rex helmet & signature belt buckle, this Power Ranger is ready for action!
—Official Website (2014-2017)

Red Mighty Morphin Power Ranger (a.k.a Jason Lee Scott) is a fictional major character in the Power Rangers franchise, played by actor Austin St. John. Jason is best remembered as the original Red Ranger from the first entry of the franchise, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, as well as the leader of the original team of the Power Rangers. He later becomes the second Gold Ranger in Power Rangers Zeo.

According to a contest held by ABC Family in 2004, Jason was voted as the #1 Red Ranger of all time. Out of all Red Rangers, he has defeated more enemies by himself than any other Ranger and is the only Ranger to beat Tommy Oliver in a fight. A subsequent contest on Toon Disney in 2007 also voted him as the most popular Red Ranger. As stated at the first Power Morphicon, Jason still holds this title.

The Power Rangers franchise heavily utilizes footage from the Japanese series Super Sentai. The original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers originated from the sixteenth Super Sentai series, Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger. In the series, the Red Mighty Morphin Power Ranger is known as the TyrannoRanger, and his civilian identity is Yamato Tribe Prince Geki (in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, the Rangers were "teens with attitude" recruited to fight an evil space witch named Rita Repulsa, while in Zyuranger, they were the mightiest warriors of five ancient tribes that coexisted with the dinosaurs, and went into suspended animation until being reawoken in modern-day Tokyo to fight Witch Bandora, a human who sold her soul to the devil himself to destroy the dinosaurs and avenge the death of her son).

History with the Macy's Parade[]

The Red Mighty Morphin Power Ranger soared to brand-new heights for the Parade's 88th anniversary in 2014, as one of six brand-new giant helium character balloons.

Designed by Saban Brands' Creative Department's Nicolette Davenport, development on the super-sized Power Ranger began in early February 2014. Originally, executives wanted to see a few pose options: a horizontal to the ground pose, a side action-kicking pose, and an upright pose. After a 3-foot tall clay model was sculpted, the balloon began to undergo its creation.

All told, the balloon took eight months to complete, and measured at 77-feet long, making it one of the longest balloons in the current Parade history, followed closely by Sinclair's DINO. The balloon continued to remind fans that "Together, we are one" until it was retired after the 2019 Parade, making six consecutive appearances in all. Since 2019, the Power Rangers franchise has yet to be represented in the Parade in any form.
