A Candy Cane is a cane-shaped stick candy often associated with Christmastide, as well as Saint Nicholas Day. It is traditionally white with red stripes and flavored with peppermint, but may also be a variety of other different flavors and colors.
History with the Macy's Parade[]
The iconic Candy Cane balloon debuted in the 1946 Parade. It would appear again in the 1948 Parade, before retiring after the event and making two appearances. The balloon was later disposed of.
56 years later, a brand new candy cane in the form of a novelty balloon made its debut in the 2004 Parade, alongside many other Christmas novelty balloons. It appeared from 2004 until 2013, although the balloon skipped 2007. It was replaced in 2014 by the Red & Green Candy Cane, but returned in 2015 Parade. It was then once again replaced by the Red & Green Candy Cane in 2017.
