The Riverside City College Marching Tigers, formerly known as the Riverside Community College Marching Tigers, is a marching band from Riverside City College, located in Riverside, California. Since forming in 1984, the Marching Tigers have grown into one of the most prominent and talented college marching bands in the world. The band is often called "Hollywood's Band," as they raise funds by appearing in movies such as Austin Powers, The Truman Show, and The Princess Diaries, as well as television shows and commercials. The RCC drumline is also a regular competitor in the WGI Indoor Percussion tournaments.
History with the Macy's Parade[]
The Riverside City College Marching Tigers made their first Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade appearance in 1990. The band had the honors of being the lead-off band, playing a rendition of "Give My Regards to Broadway" from the musical Little Johnny Jones, under the direction of band director Gary Locke and dance captain Barbie O'Neil.
Sixteen years later, the band made a reprise appearance in the 2006 Parade. Here, under rainy skies, the band paid homage to the Great White Way by performing a dazzling rendition of the Broadway classic, "Diamonds Are A Girl's Best Friend."
The Marching Tigers made their third and most recent Macy's Parade appearance in the 2018. The band's participation was announced in spring 2017 by creative director Wesley Whatley, who highlighted the band's "high-profile performances across the US and around the world" as a reason for their invitation to the procession. For their performance on 34th Street, the band played a jazzy number known as "Sing, Sang, Sung."
