Robert Keeshan (June 27th, 1927 – January 23rd, 2004) was an American television producer and actor who was best known for creating and portraying the title role in the children's television program Captain Kangaroo, which ran from 1955 to 1984, the longest-running nationally broadcast children's television program to this day. He also played the original Clarabell the Clown on the Howdy Doody television program.

For his appearance at the 1979 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, Keeshan donned as the iconic Captain Kangaroo while riding the Circus Wagon.
