The Rocking Kangaroo is a toy float from the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.
History with the Macy's Parade[]
The Rocking Kangaroo made its first appearance in the 1979 Macy's Parade, as one of several push floats that debuted that year. The float featured a mama kangaroo wobbling her way down New York City, as a spin on the classic Rocking Horse float. Escorting the herbivorous marsupial were eight of her Baby Roos, who wore matching cowboy hats and bandanas as a salute to their native plane of Australia.
Throughout the 1980s and into the early 1990s, the Rocking Kangaroo teetered and tottered its way into the hearts of millions of Parade spectators, before temporarily retiring after the 1993 Parade. The toy float returned in 1999, making its final appearance in the 2000 Parade.
The Rocking Kangaroo was last seen in the Macy's Parade Warehouse in 2009,[1] although its current whereabouts remain unknown.
