The Rocking Lobster is a toy float from the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.
History with the Macy's Parade[]
The Rocking Lobster made his Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade debut in 1979. Clawing his way down the Parade route, the toy float puts a spin on the classic Rocking Horse children's toy, and is complete with a cheery crustacean sporting a Macy's-branded sailor cap. Float escorts featuring deep-sea divers were initially a part of the float, however they would later be replaced by a group of Bathing Beauties.
The float has made multiple appearances in the Macy's Holiday Parade at Universal Orlando Resort, in addition to a special appearance at the Hoboken Sesquicentennial Parade in April of 2005.
The Rocking Lobster float was briefly retired after the 2001 Parade, but it came back in 2009 before taking another break after the 2013 Parade, and it would once again return for the 2017 Parade with many underwater friends. Since then, the Rocking Lobster has continued to appear in the line of march.
