Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade Wiki

The Safari Clowns are a clown unit from the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.

History with the Macy's Parade[]

The Safari Clowns made their debut in the 2005 Parade, with costumes recycled from the then-recently retired Animal Planet Float. The clown unit featured a group of ten safari hunters and six crocodiles as they set out on a daring journey through the concrete jungle of New York City.

The affable adventurers temporarily retired after 2007 and returned to the lineup in 2009, now joined by Butterfly Stilt Walkers and clowns dressed as Lily Pad People. The Safari Clowns would once again retire, now permanently, after the 2011 Parade.

In 2018 and 2019, the costumes of the Safari Clowns were used float escorts for the Rocking Giraffe toy float, however they were not branded as an official clown unit.

For the reimagined 2020 Parade, the Safari Clowns were to make their first official appearance as a clown unit in nearly a decade, however they would end up being cut from the lineup due to rising cases of COVID-19 in the New York area during fall of that year.

In 2021, the Safari Clowns were given updated costumes which had been recycled from the Splashing Safari Adventure float by Kalahari Resorts and Conventions. These Safari Clowns only appeared twice, and were retired after the 2022 Parade.
