Shari Lewis (January 17th, 1933 – August 2nd, 1998) was an American actress, comedian, ventriloquist, and TV personality. She's best known as the creator and original puppeteer of Lamb Chop, a sock puppet who first appeared on Captain Kangaroo in 1956. Over the course of her career, she received numerous awards, starred in dozens of TV shows, and wrote over 60 children's books. Her daughter Mallory has been performing with Lamb Chop since her mother's death in 1998.
History with the Macy's Parade[]
Lewis, along with Lamb Chop, have hosted and performed in the Parade a total of eight times. She first hosted The 49th Annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in 1975, then returned the following year in 1976. She along along with Lamb Chop returned for The 66th Annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in 1992, and continued to do so for the next five years until The 71st Annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in 1997, one year before her passing.
