Shimmer and Shine is an American animated children's television series created by Farnaz Esnaashari-Charmatz. It airs on Nickelodeon in the United States and on Treehouse in Canada. The series premiered on August 24, 2015. The show was based on an unreleased pilot in September 2013, and depicts the fantasy-filled lives of twin genies-in-training Shimmer and Shine, who often try and grant wishes for their friend Leah. In each episode, Leah works with the two genies to resolve the problems they unintentionally cause, all while keeping Shimmer and Shine a secret from her next door neighbor and best friend Zac.
History with the Macy's Parade[]
Shimmer and Shine was first represented in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in 2017, taking the form of an elaborate fantasy float. Designed and crafted by the magic-making artists at the Macy's Parade Studio, the Shimmer and Shine float was based on the hit Nickelodeon pre-school show of the same name.
The float transports Parade spectators to the whimsical world of Zahramay Falls with twin genies-in-training Shimmer and Shine, as they take a ride on their magic carpet through the streets of New York. Capturing the excitement found in the series, the colorful animated float features unique elements from their magical world including the palace, marketplace, rainbow waterfall with mist, dazzling gems and jewels, and inflatable clouds. Also showcased on the float are characters from the show including Shimmer and Shine’s best friend Leah and her pet Parisa; playful pets Nahal and Tala; and the scheming sorceress Zeta peeking out from her lair.
The Shimmer and Shine float made consecutive Parade appearances in the 2018 and 2019 Parades, retiring shortly after the latter. The float is not expected to return to the Parade's lineup, as the Shimmer and Shine television series ended in February 2020.
