Shrek is a 2001 computer-animated comedy film based on the William Steig's 1990 fairytale picture book, Shrek!. The film is directed by Andrew Adamson and Vicky Jenson, and stars Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, Cameron Diaz, and John Lithgow. The film follows Shrek, an ogre who lives in a far away swamp. His precious colitude is soon shattered by an invasion of annoying fairy tale characters, who were all banished from their kingdom by the evil Lord Farquaad. Determined to save their home - and his own - Shrek cuts a deal with Farquaad and sets out to rescue Princess Fiona to be Farquaad's bride, who hides a secret that will change his life forever.
The first Shrek movie spawned three theatrical film sequels, two holiday specials, a spin-off film, a stage prodcution and several attractions at theme parks across the world.
History with the Macy's Parade[]
Shrek and Macy's first crossed paths in 2002, when the debut of Macy's Holiday Parade at Universal Studios featured a float based on the smash-hit film. The float, recycled from the Alice in Wonderland float, features Shrek and Princess Fiona celebrating Christmas in Shrek's quaint swamp - Fiona puts the finishing touches on the swamp's holiday decor, and Shrek waves to the crowd high atop a tree that is decked out in sparkling lights.
