Sky Dancers is the name of a line of toys and an animated show spin-off that were popular in the mid-1990s. The toys were constructed of a pull-string base and a doll with foam wings. When the doll was inserted into the base and the string pulled, the doll would launch into the air, spinning its wings like a propeller as it flew.

History with the Macy's Parade[]

A Sky Dancer balloon was created for the 1995 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, debuting alongside the ill-fated Dudley the Dragon and a redesign of Snuggle Bear who had been known as Eben Bear. While the balloon survived the parade route, she punctured her face on a tree, causing the NBC telecast to avoid showing her face. The balloon returned for the 1996 Parade to promote the Sky Dancers animated series. She was retired shortly after the 1996 Parade, and since then, no new Sky Dancer balloon has been made for the Parade.

Nearly ten years after the balloon's retirement, it would appear at a test flight in mid-2006, now retro-fitted with the safety vehicles that were made mandatory for giant balloons in 1998. Since this appearance, the balloon has yet to appear publicly or at any of the current parades, with its existence still remaining unknown.
