Snowbo is an original Macy's character who first originated as a balloonicle in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. In the 1930's, Snowbo was said to be a cool snowman, roaming around town, while quoting his favorite book, The Glacier while socializing with the likes of Robert Frost. After the stock market crash, all of Snowbo's assets were frozen, leaving him in dire need of cold hard cash. Since those days, he has traveled the Parade circuit, deflating his ego somewhat, but always rising to the occasion with his head held high, becoming rich at heart.
History with the Macy's Parade[]
Snowbo made his Parade debut in the 2005 Parade, slipping and sliding down the streets of NYC as an all-new balloonicle - a combination of balloon and vehicle. Snowbo was portrayed as a happy hobo snowman with a shining grin and a twinkle in his eye. The balloonicle sported a top hat with the Macy's star emblem, a blue overcoat with a vest beneath, and a cozy green winter scarf. Snowbo also made appearances in the Macy's Holiday Parade at Universal Orlando Resort beginning in later that December.
Snowbo made a total of three appearances in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, and was retired following the 2007 procession.
However, the balloonicle would continue to see use in the Macy's Holiday Parade for the 2008 holiday season, though this marks the last time the Snowbo balloonicle made a public appearance. Despite its retirement, the balloonicle was last confirmed to exist in November 2016, through a balloon inventory chart at Macy's Parade Studio.[1]
