The Spacey Clowns are a clown unit featured in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.
History with Macy's[]
The first group of Spacey Clowns made their debut in the 1999 Macy's Parade. The clown group featured Martian tourists travelling where millions have gone before, performing an array of out-of-this-world acts. The eccentric extra-terrestrials wore giant alien heads and rode down Broadway on a spaceship clown vehicle. The group appeared alongside the Dooley & Pals float in 2000, and continued to make appearances until their retirement after the 2002 Parade.
The Spacey Clowns were reintroduced to the Parade lineup for the 2008 Macy's Parade, now a group of astronauts blasting down the Parade route with an array of red Macy's stars. The clowns were joined by the Planet Earth novelty balloon and appeared for three years before retiring in 2010.
The most recent version of the Spacey Clowns made their debut in the 2021 Parade, launching into the cosmos with all-new costumes. The group was led by an astronaut who guided eight alien crewmates along the 2.5-mile long Parade route. In 2023, Robots and clowns dressed in flight tracker suits were added to the unit.
